I like that the traditional genre of Still Life can reveal the culture of the time, comment on the human condition or the political state of society. I like that the tradition of printmaking, through the practice of creating multiples, carries with it the history of democratizing art through both image and word.
Working with landscape I like to find ideas in everyday places, often looking down at my feet through the patterns and screens that nature provides everywhere. I like the technical challenge of layering transparent inks. the tight registration and the play with contrast of the lightest tints against the power of an almost black.
